Right here in Southeastern Ohio a local high school government teacher is doing all that he can for the people of our state. Rob Jarvis of Nelsonville has recently declared his candidacy for US House of Representatives here in the 15th district. A seat currently held by Republican Steve Stivers, in Washington D.C. Rob has led a lifetime of service for the people of this state and more specifically, the people of this district. Upon graduating from Ohio University Rob worked for over 4 years as a qualified mental health specialist, helping children and families in Hocking, Perry, and Athens counties. While going back to school to attain his teaching degree, Rob spent time working with adults with disabilities right here in Southeast Ohio. Now Rob teaches Govt. at Tri County Career Center in Nelsonville. He spends everyday teaching young people the importance of education, citizenship, and what it means to truly serve others.
“I spend everyday trying to impart on my students just how important it is to be an ‘active citizen’. I want them to see that you don’t have to be wealthy or well connected to serve your country in public office. Our region, our state, our nation needs leaders, and I believe that those leaders should represent the people, and most of those people aren’t wealthy or connected. I get up and go to work everyday. I worry about bills. I worry about education for my three children. I pay flood insurance that I think is too high, and private mortgage insurance that I think is an absolute scam. I’ve seen up close the devastation of substance abuse on many homes, and I’ve worked hard to help people overcome the roadblocks of the healthcare industry. My whole professional life has been serving the people of our state, our region, and the 15th congressional district. I’ve spent everyday thinking about how to help the people here, and I guarantee that it will be those same people on my mind everyday that I serve in congress.”
Rob will be having a campaign “kickoff” event at the Athens County Democratic Office in Nelsonville Square. Admission is free. All are welcome. Come speak with Rob and learn what he believes “service” should mean for our elected officials. Keynote speech at 6:30pm.
