The Civil Rights Act can do more!
The 1st, 4th, 9th, and 14th amendments create a "zone of privacy" for the American people, and in fact several supreme court cases have been decided based a combination of these important amendments. However, I do not believe that these amendments alone, do enough to protect the LGBTQ community. Just in the past year the Justice Dept. filed an "Amicus Brief" to allow private businesses to discriminate based on one's sexual identity / orientation. They argued that the term "sex" within title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 did not apply to the LGBTQ community.
I support a rewording of section VII in order to protect all citizens regardless of "sex", "gender identity", or "sexual orientation"
